Corpus Christi Procession

Sunday, May 25 following the 11:15 a.m. Mass

Sunday, May 25, is the Feast of Corpus Christi. The Feast of Corpus Christi is a day where we specially recognize the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist.  We believe so strongly that bread has changed into the Body of Christ, that we expose it in a chapel for adoration to meditate on how Christ is working in our lives. We take it outside the Church doors in procession to show the world our belief in this gift instituted by Christ.  This will be the fourth year in a row that we as a parish have held this procession.

This procession is treated with solemnity and dignity.  The Body of Christ is placed in a monstrance and incensed.  We are blessed as the sign of the cross is made with the Eucharist.  Then the Eucharist is processed around the church and out the Fifth Avenue doors with everyone who wishes to participate following behind.  We will go in procession singing songs of praise around the neighborhood, then back to Saint Stephen’s for Benediction.  This will last about half an hour.

The Church has promoted the public procession of the Eucharist.  It is our outward sign of our faith in the God who took on flesh in order to become our companion along the way. The procession will take place at the end of the 11:15 a.m. Mass.  We encourage everyone to come and participate in this great celebration of our faith.
