Sacrament of First Eucharist

Families with children in 2nd grade (and older) are invited to prepare for and celebrate First Eucharist.  Families must be registered members of the Church of St. Stephen.  Sacramental preparation is in addition to the regular religious instruction in Faith Formation programs or St. Stephen’s School. Therefore, all participants in sacramental preparation must be registered in Faith Formation programming or enrolled in any Catholic School.

First Eucharist preparation consists of a required Parent Meeting and parent/child participation in two parish support events - Learning Centers and a First Eucharist Retreat. Parents are provided a First Eucharist book and all details at the Parent Meetings and families use this text as they provide at-home preparation.  First Communion celebrations will occur after Easter at the Church of St. Stephen over the course of several weeks. 

 

A copy of each child’s baptismal certificate is required in order to receive the Sacrament of First Eucharist. If the child was baptized at St. Stephen’s, no baptismal certificate is needed.

PARENT MEETING #1

Parents only - Attend one session in the Church 6:30-7:30 p.m.

EUCHARIST LEARNING CENTERS 

Parent(s) and child attend one evening for about 1 ½-2 hours in the FCC

Thursday, February 2, 2012, 4:00-7:30 p.m.

Or

Friday, February 3, 2012, 4:00-7:30 p.m.

 

 

EUCHARIST RETREATS

 

First Eucharist Retreats will be held in the Faith Community Center:

Saturday, March 3, 2012, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon

and Sunday, March 4, 2012, 2:30-4:30 p.m. 

 

Each child preparing for First Eucharist is asked to attend ONE of these sessions with a parent/guardian, and to be present the whole two hours for some special new activities regarding First Eucharist!

• April 28/29, 2012, at weekend Masses (Saturday evening and Sunday morning)  Sat., 5:00 p.m., Sunday, 8:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 11:00 a.m.
• May 5, 2012, 10:00 a.m. Saturday celebration of Mass at St. Stephen’s Church
• May 12, 2012, 10:00 a.m. Saturday celebration of Mass at St. Stephen’s Church
